1. What is SNOWFLAKE?
- Firstly found in 2012 in San Mateo, California by three data warehousing experts: Benoît Dageville, Thierry Cruanes and Marcin Żukowski.
- It is a cloud hosted ,relational database built on GCP,AWS,Azure.
- Can build a data warehouse on demand.
- There is no on premises version of snowflake.
- It can't be installed by user.
2. Advantages of SNOWFALKE?
- Easy to use.
- Cheaper than on premises.
- MFA
- Auto scale up and scale down according to the requirement.
- It runs on cloud only as no special hardware required.
- Auto backup
- Different set of tools according to user needs like :-
- SnowSql
- web ui
- snowsight
3. Limitations:
- It can only manage structured and semi-structure data.
- Higher cost.
- Doesn't has its own cloud for DWH solutions, so there is lack of snergy .
4. Architecture of SNOWFLAKE:
- Basically snowflake is based on shared-disk and shared-nothing architecture.
shared-disk architecture - one or more them one number of compute nodes connected with a single disk.
shared nothing architecture- every node is connected to the single disk.
